Spitzhacken (engl. pickaxes) sind Werkzeuge, die zum Entfernen („Abbau“) von Blöcken und Einrichtung verwendet werden, was das Aufsammeln und erneute Platzieren ermöglicht. Unter „Blöcke“ fallen sowohl Erze als auch platzierte Holzblöcke, neben unzähligen anderen. Spitzhacken können nicht dafür verwendet werden, Hintergrundwände abzubauen (erfordert einen Hammer) oder Bäume zu fällen (erfordert eine Axt/Kettensäge). Manche der Hardmode-Spitzhacken besitzen ein Bohrer-Pendant.
Neue Spielercharaktere erscheinen immer mit einer Kupferspitzhacke bzw., im Reise-Modus, mit einer Eisenspitzhacke.

Momentan gibt es 31 verschiedene Spitzhacken in Terraria, wovon 15 ausschließlich im Hardmode erhältlich sind.
